Putting our ideas into action

Enhanced carbon assessments

In recent years a host of new legislative regulatory initiatives has been introduced to help combat climate change. Buildings are the biggest source of carbon emissions in the UK and these initiatives encourage and, in some cases oblige, companies, both private and public, to reduce the carbon emitted from their buildings. This is primarily achieved through more efficient use of sustainable, renewable energy sources. Green2Go provides both strategic and operational support to help organisations manage their carbon. In terms of practical support to improve the energy efficiency of buildings, and therefore reduce carbon emissions, Green2Go offers an Enhanced carbon Assessment (ECA), which comprises the following elements: • Measurement of the building’s existing carbon footprint to create a benchmark and establish its performance against similar types of buildings and any targets that have been set. • A detailed survey to identify where energy is being wasted or used inefficiently. • Thermal imaging of the building’s exterior to identify areas of maximum and unexplained heat loss. • Discussions with key users of the building to highlight any issues which may not be identified through other channels. • A staff survey of opinions and attitudes to energy efficiency in order to aid future communications regarding its importance and the pivotal role staff play. The output from the assessment is a detailed and practical action plan for incremental reductions in carbon emissions from the building. Green2Go assists with implementing the action plan where required and also offers an annual follow up assessment to measure the extent to which the recommendations have actually reduced carbon emissions over time.
